How Valuable is a traditional art in the Gen-Z era?

Updated: Aug 10, 2022

traditional art and Gen-Z

Art has traveled through time and evolved through centuries of reorganization by many civilizations and ethnicities.

When we talk about Traditional Art, we usually mean Classical Art, which refers to beliefs about what art should reflect society transmogrified throughout the Renaissance and Illuminism.

These notions arose during the Renaissance and persisted into the twenty-first century.
Academicism is intimately linked to these ideas and concepts.

”Artistic truths” that may have gone uncontested in the past are now embroiled in ideological fights.

Unless a compelling case can be presented for their continued existence over the ages, the market will happily ignore them.

The state of our art can be attributed to industrialization and modernity.
The cost of manufacturing handcrafted items is higher than making machine-cut ones.
For obvious reasons, there is a distinction.

Handmade items need specialized and expert labor, making them one-of-a-kind.
On the other hand, machine-cut items have no such requirements and may be made in large quantities, making them readily available.

As a result, demand for handmade goods will eventually decline.

The primary issue in today’s time is attracting an audience that finds relevance in traditional art forms and sustaining that interest for a longer time.

Millennials meme
The millennials and Gen Z are more empowered than earlier generations due to social media. They leverage these exciting new technological tools to leave their indelible mark on art dealers as makers.

Their legacy has yet to be fulfilled, but their methods are one-of-a-kind and unprecedented.

Young innovators have created new approaches to getting their traditional concepts past the door since they are more educated and worldly than their ancestors.

They take advantage of “rareness” by making NFTs of such art forms profit.

The artwork is available for purchase in a variety of formats.

Brick-and-mortar auction houses, consignment galleries, internet art sites, and individual dealers are alternatives to online auctions.

They offer classes and workshops in various art forms and make it easily accessible to the general public to spread awareness about our rich culture.

This ethnically diverse country’s numerous folk art traditions are more than simply an essential element of its culture; they are the cornerstone of its rich legacy.

These folk paintings link India’s rich past and different customs, reflecting the distinctive qualities and collective stories of communities.

As a result, it plays an essential role in preserving the country’s personal and cultural identity.

On a personal level, Indian traditional paintings give a focal point to which its people may always return — whether to learn more about their ancestors or just to strengthen their bonds with their communities.

Gen Z artists have managed to keep classic art forms alive while infusing them with a non-traditional dash of progress.

Artists such as Vagara Choudhary, Monique Romeiko, and Natallia Bahushevich have created pieces representing their thoughts on the issue.

“While ‘OK,’ a collection of digital art blends traditional painting, investigates the numerous characteristics of the quaint but dynamic local life,’ ‘United Diversities’ borrows motifs from traditional Rajasthani paintings,” says the artist.

These paintings appear to delve into the artist’s beliefs on communal tolerance and cohabitation in such a culturally and politically varied country as India.

Any culture or art form has the fantastic ability to fascinate people from all walks of life, regardless of their background, caste, or religion, via its pure creative brilliance and artistry.

In conclusion, traditional and folk art has been celebrated in India for centuries. It is our moral duty to ensure the revival of the popularity of such art forms and proselytize traditionally and folk art among Gen Zs.
